Job summary

The NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) is seeking an Inspector to enforce consumer and worker protection laws through field operations, investigations, and multi-agency actions in New York City. The role requires strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent with four years of relevant experience, or a bachelor's degree with substitutions. A NY Driver License is required at appointment.

Qualifications

• Four-year high school diploma or equivalent with four years of full-time investigations or inspections experience.
• Bachelor's degree may substitute for the required experience, 30 credits per year of experience.
• Possession of a New York State driver license at the time of appointment and maintained throughout employment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field enforcement and undercover inspections as part of multi-agency actions.
• Enforce weights and measures laws; test, seal, or confiscate devices as needed.
• Investigate trade practices to detect consumer deception and inspect licensed trades.
• Prepare summonses and testify at hearings.
• Maintain professional demeanor and provide excellent customer service.
