Job summary

Generators on Demand is seeking a Generator Service Technician in Old Lyme, CT to diagnose, repair, and maintain residential and light commercial standby generators in a hands-on field role.

The position requires mechanical and electrical aptitude, the ability to read wiring diagrams, and the capacity to work safely with engineers, electricians, and other team members. Excellent communication with customers is essential.

Qualifications

• Generator service and repair experience preferred.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams and service manuals.
• Experience with control panels, transfer switches, and generator controllers.
• Mechanical and electrical aptitude; comfortable with tools and test equipment.
• Ability to work outdoors, lift and carry equipment, and do physical labor.
• Strong communication and teamwork, with safety as a priority.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on standby and portable generator systems.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and fuel system faults on generator systems.
• Troubleshoot control panels, controllers, transfer switches, and automatic transfer equipment.
• Perform load bank testing and verify generator performance under load.
• Test, adjust, and replace generator components, sensors, and accessories as required.
• Interpret wiring diagrams, service manuals, and manufacturer technical literature accurately.
• Document parts used and recommend follow-up repairs based on field findings.
• Support generator startup and commissioning as required.
• Respond to emergency and after-hours service calls when customers lose power.
