Job summary

Education Development Center (EDC) is seeking 5 part-time Data-Collectors (Casual I) to support a federally funded study examining how integrated science and literacy curricula affect early elementary students’ understanding of science. The Data-Collector will assist kindergartners and 1st graders with self-administered tablet assessments in school classrooms.

Applicants must be willing to travel locally/regionally to Madison, WI; East Syracuse, NY; Portland, OR; San Juan, CA.

Qualifications

• Experience working with young children in educational settings.
• Experience teaching within elementary schools.
• Experience conducting assessments with young children.

Responsibilities

• Participate in study orientation meeting and all data collection trainings
• Become a reliable assessment administrator
• Undergo required background checks and fingerprinting procedures
• Complete required CITI research ethics course
• Travel locally/regionally to elementary schools within data collection sites (Madison, WI; East Syracuse, NY; Portland, OR; San Juan, CA)
• Travel costs (e.g. mileage) reimbursed
• Conduct assessments with kindergarten and first grade students
• Complete data entry and follow-up notes within 24 hours of data collection
• Communicate effectively with teachers and school staff about scheduled visits
• Coordinate with study team leaders to follow established data collection protocols
• Troubleshoot potential technical difficulties during assessment administration
• Maintain setup of the study’s assessment tablet technology
• Potentially conduct classroom observations of science activities in study locations
