Job summary

Stantec seeks on-call archaeologists to support our Southern California fieldwork portfolio, including CEQA and Section 106 projects, desktop reviews, surveys, and monitoring. The role offers mentorship, diverse field experiences, and flexible scheduling to balance field and office tasks.

Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology or Archaeology and 1 year of relevant experience are preferred; strong writing, GIS, and team collaboration are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology or Archaeology from an accredited university.
• 1-year minimum relevant field experience (field school, internship, lab work, CRM).
• Experience in California Archaeology preferred and ability to work on field crews.

Responsibilities

• Support Field Directors and Project Managers with pre-field planning and surveys.
• Assist with shovel test pits, test excavations, and construction monitoring.
• Document precontact and historic resources per state and federal standards.
• Prepare field records, maps, and photographic logs.
• Use GIS and mobile apps for site mapping and data collection.
• Contribute to NRHP/CRHR assessments and site significance discussions.
• Produce daily logs, monitoring reports, and HSSE documentation.
• Maintain safety protocols and professional conduct in field settings.
• Collaborate within teams or independently across varied field conditions.
• Provide field logistics support including equipment care and supplies.
