Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a hands-on 3D scanning technician to operate handheld Artec scanners and process data for scan-to-CAD deliverables. You will work on concrete, steel, and industrial plant projects, performing field scans, on-site verification, and data preparation for CAD teammates.

You’ll grow through training on capture procedures, drift-control methods, and reporting templates, with opportunities to advance to regional roles or project management as the service line

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating handheld scanner on real projects with examples.
• Working knowledge of Artec Studio or similar software; mesh cleanup, registration, export.
• Familiarity with CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion, Inventor, Revit) and reading drawings.
• Comfortable on active construction sites; able to carry equipment, climb, work outdoors.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable record.
• Able to travel and fly with equipment as assigned.
• Experience with scan-to-CAD, Geomagic Design X, or metrology reporting a plus.
• ACI, NICET, or ICC certifications a plus; sponsor them.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute handheld 3D scans of rebar and embeds before concrete placement.
• Control drift on large objects with reference features and overlapping zones.
• Verify capture completeness on site before leaving.
• Process scans in Artec Studio: registration, fusion, mesh cleanup, texture, and export.
• Produce deviation color maps, measurement reports, crack maps, pit-depth tables, and anchor bolt coordinates reports against drawings.
• Build scan-to-CAD solids (STEP/IGES) for reverse engineering and fit-up checks, or hand clean meshes to the modeling team.
• Document capture procedure, equipment settings, and chain of custody on forensic matters.
• Keep the scanner, batteries, and calibration records in order.
• Coordinate access, permits, and safety with superintendents and plant contacts.
• Travel to regional hubs as assigned.
