Job summary

MasTec Communications Group is seeking a skilled Fiber Splicer in Minneapolis, MN to build end-to-end fiber optic networks and support outdoor utility construction projects. Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of fiber splicing and troubleshooting experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.

  • Safety-focused and able to work overtime when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Test and troubleshoot the continuity of fiber optic networks.
  • Operate all testing equipment and resolve common fiber network challenges.
  • Experience prepping fiber splice enclosures (Tyco, CommScope, Corning).
  • Utilize fusion splicer, OTDR 1310/1550, DWDM, CWDM, OLTS, Max Tester, power meter.
  • Read and interpret fiber design drawings and specifications.
  • Work in outdoor utility construction sites.

Responsibilities

As a Fiber Splicer, you are responsible for producing end-to-end fiber optic networks.

In addition, you will:

  • Test and troubleshoot the continuity of fiber optic networks
  • Operate all testing equipment and be adept at the resolution of challenges common to fiber optic networks
  • Experience prepping fiber splice enclosures such as Tyco, CommScope, Corning, etc.
  • Utilize a fusion splicer, test equipment, OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer) 1310, 1550, DWDM, CWDM, 945 OLTS, Max Tester, Power meter
  • Fiber engineer knowledge of fiber design, reading documentation, understanding of light levels, and dB loss
  • Work in outdoor utility construction sites

  • You have at least 3-5 years of fiber splicing and troubleshooting experience
  • You are comfortable working on a ladder or a bucket truck
  • You are flexible and enjoy a variety of shifts with overtime
  • Knowledge of low voltage electrical systems and mechanical principles
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
