Job summary

MasTec Communications Group is seeking a skilled Fiber Splicer to join our field teams in Sterling, VA. You will build end-to-end fiber optic networks and ensure high-quality, safe installations in outdoor utility environments.

Ideal candidates have 3–5 years of fiber splicing experience, are proficient with fusion splicers and OTDRs, and thrive in hands-on, team-based work with varying shifts and overtime. We offer competitive pay, sign-on bonuses, and a comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities

• Testing and troubleshooting the continuity of fiber optic networks.
• Operate testing equipment and resolve common fiber network issues.
• Experience prepping fiber splice enclosures (Tyco, CommScope, Corning).
• Utilize fusion splicer and OTDR equipment (1310/1550, DWDM/CWDM, OLTS, Max tester).
• Understand fiber design, documentation, light levels, and dB loss.
• Work at outdoor utility construction sites.

Responsibilities

As a Fiber Splicer, you are responsible for producing end-to-end fiber optic networks. You believe in doing the job right. Being the best. And you’re up for the challenge.

In Addition, You Will

• Testing and troubleshooting the continuity of fiber optic networks
• Operate all testing equipment and be adept at the resolution of challenges common to fiber optic networks
• Experience prepping fiber splice enclosures such as Tyco, CommScope, Corning, etc.
• Utilize fusion splicer, test equipment OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer) 1310, 1550, DWDM, CWDM, 945 OLTS, Max Tester, Power meter
• Fiber engineer knowledge of fiber design, reading documentation, understanding of light levels, and dB loss
• Work in outdoor utility construction sites

Compensation of $25-$40 per hour.
