Job summary

Pillar Innovations is hiring a Field Technician II – Fiber Optics to string and maintain fiber optic cables, including pulling, splicing, testing, and troubleshooting in outside plant environments. The role requires comfort working at heights, in confined spaces, and operating bucket trucks and splicing equipment.

You will report to the Project Manager – Fiber Optics and contribute to efficient network installations.

Qualifications

• 2-4 years of relevant Fiber Optics experience preferred
• Ability to identify independent colors and learn color codes
• Valid Driver’s License is required
• Experience with ladder, bucket truck, cable puller, and reel stands preferred
• Small equipment experience preferred (e.g. forklift, bobcat, telehandler, skid steer)
• Flagger Certification preferred
• Must be comfortable working at elevated heights and in confined spaces
• Ability to work effectively under minimal supervision
• Ability to inspect, operate, and mobilize a bucket truck
• Ability to apply technical expertise, evaluate problems and implement best practices
• Possess verbal and written communication skills with the ability to maintain professionalism
• Compute basic math calculations and take measurements
• Ability to read and execute network drawings and splicing diagrams
• Familiar with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, and Visio

Responsibilities

• String and maintain fiber optic cables including pulling, tensioning, stranding, and spacing lines
• Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair fiber lines
• Terminate, splice, document, and test fiber optic cables
• Work in communications and power spaces
• Report to the Project Manager – Fiber Optics
• Work at heights and in confined spaces as required
• Use splicers, OTDR, light-source power-meter, and related tools
