We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Associate Fiber Design Engineer to join a growing telecommunications team. This is an excellent opportunity for an entry-level engineering professional looking to develop a career in fiber optics, telecommunications, GIS, and network infrastructure.
The Associate Fiber Design Engineer will support the planning, design, deployment, maintenance, and documentation of fiber-optic networks. This position will work closely with senior engineers, GIS teams, network planners, construction teams, vendors, and project management to ensure projects are completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the design, development, and implementation of fiber-optic network infrastructure.
- Conduct site surveys and evaluate fiber-optic system requirements for various projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure fiber installations meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Assist with troubleshooting, maintenance, network testing, fiber splicing, termination, and testing activities.
- Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including design drawings, schematics, and project reports.
- Support the planning and execution of fiber network upgrades and expansions.
- Provide technical support during network deployment and commissioning.
- Work with clients, vendors, engineering teams, and field personnel to support successful project execution.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards and environmental regulations.
- Manage the lifecycle of engineering geospatial data, including data creation, updating, maintenance, and archiving.
- Collaborate with Engineering, GIS, Network Planning, Field, and Construction teams to ensure GIS data accurately reflects the fiber network from planned through as-built.
- Accurately and promptly enter as-built information into Vetro based on construction redlines and ensure required information is uploaded into 811 systems.
- Perform quality control reviews of projects, designs, and plans to ensure compliance with established engineering standards.
Additional Responsibilities
- Attend meetings with management, internal departments, vendors, and project stakeholders.
- Prepare weekly status reports and communicate project progress, challenges, and issues to management.
- Work closely with the PMO to provide updates on project schedules, delays, risks, and recommended mitigation steps.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree in GIS, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with GIS systems.
- Proficiency with GIS tools and applications such as ArcGIS or QGIS.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability and willingness to travel for business as required.
- Strong interest in fiber-optic technology and telecommunications infrastructure.
- Basic understanding of fiber-optic systems, splicing, termination, and testing.
- Knowledge of fiber-optic network design principles and industry standards is a plus.
- Familiarity with fiber testing equipment, including OTDRs, power meters, and light sources, is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Proactive attitude and ability to adapt quickly to new technologies, tools, and processes.
