Job description

Our client is seeking a hands-on Fiber Infrastructure Technician to help build, maintain, and troubleshoot the communications backbone behind critical field infrastructure. This is an opportunity for a technician who enjoys working outside, solving real problems in the field, and seeing the direct impact of quality installation work. The role offers exposure to fiber optics, connected field equipment, underground and aerial infrastructure, network communications, and specialized testing technology within a safety focused team environment. The underlying client position includes fiber installation, testing, troubleshooting, communications equipment, underground and aerial work, and field safety responsibilities.

This Role Offers:
  • Competitive compensation with opportunities for overtime and performance-based earnings.
  • Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, retirement savings, paid time off, and additional insurance options.
  • Hands on exposure to a mix of underground, aerial, optical, and low voltage systems rather than being limited to one type of installation.
  • Safety and technical training designed to expand field capabilities and support continued career development.
  • A team-oriented environment where dependable workmanship, accountability, and professional growth are valued.
Focus:
  • Build, splice, terminate, and verify fiber runs used across roadway communications and connected field equipment.
  • Diagnose damaged strands, weak optical signals, connectivity interruptions, and other field communication issues.
  • Use optical test equipment such as OTDRs, power meters, and light sources to validate installation quality and isolate faults.
  • Support communication links serving roadway cameras, detection equipment, message displays, controllers, and other connected assets.
  • Complete aerial and underground cable work, including pulling fiber through conduit, innerduct, handholes, vaults, and similar pathways.
  • Read project plans, maps, diagrams, specifications, and technical instructions to complete field assignments accurately.
  • Document cable routes, splice information, test results, equipment identification, and completed field activity.
  • Work safely with lifts, bucket trucks, hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment while following jobsite and traffic control requirements.
Skill Set:
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to perform field assignments safely around moving traffic, active construction zones, heights, and changing outdoor weather conditions.
  • Ability to read and understand plans, diagrams, maps, and technical instructions and apply that information to practical field work.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify technical problems and determine practical next steps.
  • Ability to use, or quickly learn, fiber testing equipment and job related tools.
  • Experience in fiber optics, telecommunications, low voltage systems, electrical work, roadway technology, or related construction is preferred.
  • Fiber splicing experience, OTDR familiarity, networking knowledge, roadway systems experience, or relevant technical certifications are valuable additions.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and alongside field crews, supervisors, and project personnel.
