Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is hiring Border Patrol Agents (BPA) in multiple entry and mid-level career tracks. Positions are full-time with competitive base pay and strong benefits. Recruitment and retention incentives may total up to $50,000, with location-based incentives and comprehensive retirement plans.

Typical duties include border surveillance, document inspections, and enforcing immigration and customs laws to safeguard U.S. borders while supporting lawful travel and trade.

Qualifications

• One year of general work experience demonstrating the ability to take charge, make sound decisions, and maintain composure in stressful situations.
• Education substitution: a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Combination of experience and education may be considered.
• Grade levels: GL-5, GL-7, GL-9, GS-11 paths based on experience.

Responsibilities

• Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspecting documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
• Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders using surveillance and night-vision equipment.
• Interpreting tracks, marks and evidence of illegal entry or contraband.
• Performing farm, building, traffic, city, and transportation checks.
• Patrolling international boundaries and coastal waterways using government assets to fulfill the USBP mission.

Education

Bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course leading to a bachelor's degree
