FACULTY MSD - American Sign Language Teacher

Position Overview

Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD) is a diverse, bilingual community committed to providing an equitable and exemplary education to deaf and hard of hearing students from preschool to Grade 8. We partner with families to foster personal excellence and lifelong learning.

Location

MSD, Columbia Campus, 8169 Old Montgomery Road, Ellicott City, MD 21043.

Main Responsibilities
  • Teach American Sign Language (ASL) as a primary language, including linguistics, Deaf Culture, Deaf History, and Deaf Literature.
  • Implement K-12 ASL Standards in classroom and school-wide activities.
  • Develop lesson plans, curriculum maps, and assess student progress.
  • Collaborate with teachers and specialists on IEP goals.
  • Provide leadership in ASL instruction and digital/media skills relevant to ASL education.
  • Coordinate and lead school-wide events related to ASL and Deaf Culture.
  • Conduct training on ASL Standards and align them with state standards.
  • Apply bilingual instructional strategies across all student levels.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; certification or ability to obtain certification in ASL instruction.
  • Fluent in ASL and written English.
  • Knowledge of the Deaf Community.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in ASL Education or equivalent.
  • Experience teaching ASL as a primary language or in a classroom setting.
Additional Requirements
  • Background check at applicant's expense.
  • Three letters of recommendation required.
