Introduction

Anticipated openings for the 2025-2026 School Year. Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD) is a diverse, bilingual community that, in partnership with families, provides an equitable and exemplary education in a nurturing, engaging, and challenging environment. We aim to ensure our students achieve personal excellence and become lifelong learners. We are seeking dedicated individuals to join us in educating the children at MSD.

Location of Position

MSD, Columbia Campus, 8169 Old Montgomery Road, Ellicott City, MD 21043

Main Purpose of Job

To develop and implement a bilingual educational program for Deaf students in a language-accessible environment, and provide an enriched bicultural environment that fosters social and emotional growth. The role involves using sign language and printed words to meet diverse student needs.

Position Duties

  1. Assess and teach Deaf students, including implementing Maryland’s standards and developing IEPs.
  2. Create and maintain a conducive learning environment.
  3. Prepare weekly lesson plans based on assessments and data, utilizing bilingual pedagogy and differentiated instruction.
  4. Design learning materials and collect data for individualized planning.
  5. Develop IEPs, write progress reports, and apply accommodations in teaching and assessments.
  6. Maintain grade books, portfolios, lesson plans, attendance, and emergency plans.
  7. Manage classroom behavior effectively, model appropriate behavior, and promote self-control.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Eligibility or willingness to obtain Maryland State Department of Education certification.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language and written English required.
  • Knowledge of Deaf culture, Deaf Education, and ability to teach students with varying backgrounds.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Education or Special Education of Deaf students.
  • Maryland State Department of Education Certification.

Special Requirements

  • Subject to criminal background check at applicant’s expense.
  • Provide three letters of recommendation.
