Facility Operations Assistant – Outdoor Support Team Members
The University of Virginia Department of Recreation is seeking a student employee to support outdoor facility operations.
Responsibilities
- Take pride in being a student employee in the UVA Department of Recreation.
- Establish a service‑focused rapport and relationship with students, departmental staff, members and guests.
- Promote exceptional customer service to create a positive environment for members and guests.
- Take initiative, be proactive, and exercise confident decision‑making.
- Be prepared to respond to all emergency situations and follow procedures for pre‑ and post‑incident/accident.
- Maintain a standard of excellence in professionalism and cleanliness.
- Serve as a key link between members, the Facility Operations Supervisor and full‑time staff by enforcing policies and procedures.
- Area‑specific responsibilities:
- Customer Relations/Service: provide a quality customer‑service experience, act as information agents, manage reception areas, monitor access, lend equipment, process memberships through Innosoft Fusion, and refer difficult transactions to the supervisor or business office.
- Facility Operations: maintain cleanliness of fitness equipment, assist the Facility Operations Supervisor with daily operations, opening/closing procedures, ongoing maintenance, preparation of outdoor spaces, event and reservation support, maintain safety, assist in executing emergency action procedures, and adhere to university and departmental policies.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Demonstrate great customer service in a respectful environment.
- Dedicate 6–12 hours per week to UVA Rec.
- Available for opening/closing shifts, Friday nights, weekends, and academic breaks.
- Complete department training.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings and in‑service sessions.
- Current U.Va. student.

Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job occasionally requires traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
