Job summary

El Paso County seeks a Facilities Superintendent to oversee day-to-day maintenance, repair, renovation and system services for county facilities, ensuring reliable operations and safety standards.

You will supervise employees, coordinate projects with management and vendors, manage budgets, and ensure procurement regulations and RFQ specifications are followed. Strong leadership and technical knowledge of building systems are essential.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Technology, Building Trades or related field with 3 years experience, or high school diploma with 5 years building trades/maintenance experience, including 3 years supervisory experience.
• Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Must meet continuing education requirements to retain licensure(s).

Responsibilities

• Supervises division employees, including assigning and reviewing work, training, completing performance evaluations for employees under his direction, and making recommendations on hiring, terminating, and disciplining.
• Plans, directs, and coordinates, through subordinate-level staff, the department work plan; meets with management staff to identify and resolve problems; assigns projects and programmatic areas of responsibility; and reviews and evaluates work methods and procedures.
• Directs routine and emergency maintenance of all facility systems including but not limited to structural repairs, electrical systems, mechanical systems, life safety systems, vertical transportation systems, etc., following standard engineering practices and procedures.
• Recommends short-term and long-term improvements for county facilities, which includes major building system equipment, new properties, and disposition of existing properties.
• Works with department heads, the public, division staff, and other county staff to establish priorities and set schedules for timely completion of planning, design, construction, renovation, and maintenance projects.
• Adheres, under director, to all procurement regulations and procedures, and RFQ specifications for projects and assists in preparing specifications for building equipment projects as needed.
• Establishes and implements operational and safety policies and procedures to assure the highest standards of risk management, employee safety, and risk avoidance.
