Job summary

Salt Lake County is seeking a Construction & Maintenance Specialist II to perform routine maintenance, repairs, and basic construction across county facilities, grounds, and equipment. The role requires driving within county operations, adherence to safety protocols, and blueprints interpretation.

The position offers a salary range of $42,614.00 - $63,919.00 DOE, plus an hourly environmental pay. A valid Utah driver’s license is required; background checks and drug testing are mandatory.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of experience in related building maintenance and/or construction trade.
• A valid Driver’s License accepted by the State of Utah is required at the time of hire; a valid Utah license must be obtained within six months to operate a county vehicle.
• Some Departments may require a current Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) Medical Card or attainment of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six months of hire.
• Must pass a fingerprint-based background check and enroll in the RAP Back program.
• Must pass a mandatory drug test before starting; may be subject to random alcohol and drug testing.

Responsibilities

• Transports and operates light, medium, and/or heavy-duty equipment.
• Operates and performs general maintenance on service vehicles, equipment, and tools.
• Maintains records of work requests and routine equipment maintenance and safety records.
• Assists with loading/unloading dock deliveries and shipments.
• Troubleshoots and performs basic repair across electrical, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, masonry, and painting tasks.
• Performs plumbing tasks including fixture maintenance and sprinkler care.
• Maintains facility grounds and constructs/repairs curbs, sidewalks, and fences.
• Reads blueprints; estimates labor, materials, and time; ensures safety regulations are followed.
• May order stock of materials and assist licensed professionals when required.
