Job summary

Salt Lake County is hiring a Construction & Maintenance Specialist II to perform routine and basic work in maintenance, repairs, fabrications, remodeling, and construction across facilities, grounds, and equipment.

The position requires two years of related experience, a valid Utah driver’s license (with potential CDL requirement), and pre-employment background checks including RAP Back and drug testing. It offers a comprehensive facilities duties scope across jail and county buildings.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in building maintenance or construction.
• Valid Utah Driver's License required at hire; must obtain within six months to operate county vehicle.
• UDOT Medical Card and/or CDL within six months may be required by some departments.
• Background check via fingerprinting and RAP Back; drug test required before starting.

Responsibilities

• Transports and operates light, medium, and/heavy equipment.
• Operates and maintains service vehicles, equipment, and tools.
• Prepares routine records and maintains work requests and maintenance logs.
• Assists with loading/unloading dock deliveries.
• Troubleshoots and performs basic electrical, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, masonry, and painting tasks.
• Electrical: lighting, outlets, switches, and cubicle wiring.
• Plumbing: faucets, toilets, valves, and sprinklers.
• Maintains grounds and outdoor facilities including landscaping and sprinkler systems.
• Assembles/disassembles furniture and office fixtures; reads blueprints and estimates labor.
• May assist licensed electricians/plumbers; supports HVAC maintenance; locksmith duties as needed.
• County Jail: maintain related systems and security equipment.
