Job summary

Salt Lake City Corporation is seeking a Maintenance Specialist II to perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance across carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and safety systems. You will guide less-skilled staff on shared tasks and assist trade staff on larger assignments to maintain city facilities to City Standards.

The role requires intermediate-level trades competence, independent work, and occasional guidance of others.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Three years of facilities maintenance, construction or repair experience in a commercial/industrial setting.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Forklift certification required within six months of employment.
• Building operators certificate within one year of hire.
• Ability to read blueprints, diagrams, and manuals.
• Knowledge of power and hand tools used in facilities maintenance.
• Experience with computers for recordkeeping and automated system controls.
• Successful completion of a background check.

Responsibilities

• Maintain knowledge of materials, systems and code requirements for city facilities.
• Perform preventive maintenance on building systems and related components.
• Test system components and evaluate performance.
• Repair and maintain facility systems, electrical and plumbing as needed.
• Troubleshoot equipment and coordinate external service when required.
• Monitor contractors and review project costs.
• Adjust computerized controls for lighting/energy management systems.
• Keep electronic records of maintenance in CMMS and track work orders.
