Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Amarillo is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Tech II to perform skilled maintenance of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and other building systems. The role may involve supervising lower‑level technicians and is based in an environment focused on safety and quality maintenance.

Pay is hourly with a typical schedule Monday to Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm. Candidates should have a high school diploma with 3 years of experience and reliable computer skills.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus 3 years relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in written and numerical skills as may be reflected by completion of high school or equivalent.
  • Experience in routine and preventive maintenance of building systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on buildings and equipment, including HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work.
  • Oversee and review the work of lower‑level technicians.

Visa Information

TTUHSC, at its sole discretion, may initiate new H-1B I-129 visa petitions in accordance with the directive issued by Governor Abbott. Approval from the Texas Workforce Commission is required. On a limited, case-by-case basis, the institution may also sponsor eligible individuals for change-of-status or change-of-employer petitions for qualifying positions. TTUHSC will not pay the $100,000 fee, if applicable.

Position Description

Performs skilled maintenance and repair of complex mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and other physical structures. May oversee and review the work of lower-level technicians.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Performs routine and preventive maintenance on buildings and equipment, including HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work, pertaining to minor building maintenance and remodeling.
  • Listens, follows, and executes duties given by supervisor.
  • Documents and finalizes maintenance requests as needed.
  • Moves various equipment, furniture etc.
  • Safely operates, manages and maintains facilities, tools and equipment.
Required Qualifications

Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Three years of job relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • General HVAC and maintenance skills, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and other physical functions in accordance with standard operating procedures, internal requirements, manufacturer's specifications, and safety policies.
  • General knowledge and understanding of building heating, air conditioning, and ventilating equipment, along with related utilities and controls.
  • Ability to work in the construction, erection, installation, and repair of structures and fixtures.
  • Responsibilities include the knowledge and capability to work with a team in the construction, alteration, repair, and maintenance of equipment, furnishings, and various other structures and fixtures.
  • Ability to use and operate a computer.
  • Work is performed under general supervision with evaluation based on results obtained. Possess and maintains a valid driver's license.
