Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Texas is seeking a Software Administrator III to manage access control and security systems. You will ensure system reliability, support cross‑functional teams, and implement secure authentication procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science/MIS/IT or related field with 3 years of related full-time paid experience or 7 years combined education/experience.
  • Background checks required including criminal history and security screenings.
  • Experience with access control and security hardware preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain the electronic access control system, including user records and access levels.
  • Manage employee and student access credentials per procedures.
  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain security hardware and field devices.
  • Support and maintain video surveillance systems and related security tech.
  • Troubleshoot and perform preventive maintenance on security systems.
  • Evaluate updates, patches, firmware, and configuration changes.
  • Support installations and modifications for new construction or renovations.
  • Monitor performance and identify failures and end-of-life needs.

Visa Information

TTUHSC, at its sole discretion, may initiate new H-1B I-129 visa petitions in accordance with the directive issued by Governor Abbott. Approval from the Texas Workforce Commission is required. On a limited, case-by-case basis, the institution may also sponsor eligible individuals for change‑of‑status or change‑of‑employer petitions for qualifying positions. Position Description

A Software Administrator III works primarily independently in the management and support administration for assigned software while contributing to moderately complex project work. This role ensures system reliability, security, and performance, and collaborates with cross‑functional teams to implement and enhance technical solutions. Best aligned to those supporting division/larger department‑wide access management, LMS/Exam Software, or database software.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Administer and maintain the electronic access control and security credentialing system, including user records, access levels, door groups, schedules, and system configurations.
  • Manage employee and student access credentials, including issuing, modifying, deactivating, printing, and distributing access cards in accordance with established authorization procedures.
  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain physical security equipment, including access control panels, controllers, I/O boards, card readers, electronic locking hardware, and related field devices.
  • Support and maintain video surveillance systems, including cameras, recording equipment, and associated security technology.
  • Perform system troubleshooting and preventative maintenance to identify and resolve hardware, software, communication, and connectivity issues affecting security systems.
  • Evaluate and implement system updates, including software upgrades, patches, firmware updates, controller revisions, and configuration changes.
  • Support security system installations, expansions, and modifications for new construction, renovations, equipment replacements, and departmental security needs.
  • Monitor system and equipment performance and proactively identify equipment failures, vulnerabilities, and end‑of‑life replacement needs.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with coursework in computer science, MIS, IT, or other related areas plus three (3) years related full‑time paid experience in application administration OR a combination of related education and/or experience to equal seven (7) years.

In accordance with Texas Executive Order GA‑48 and applicable state or federal law, this position may involve access to, work on, or conduct research involving critical infrastructure. It will require background checks, including, but not limited to, criminal history and other security‑related screenings. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of these checks.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience administering and supporting Software House C‑CURE 9000, including controllers and associated field devices.
  • Experience with enterprise access control, video surveillance, electronic locking hardware, system integrations, firmware and software upgrades, and troubleshooting physical security systems.
  • C‑CURE 9000 training or certification and experience supporting a multi‑site environment.
