Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or vocational school and three years journeyman level experience in one or more phases of building/facility maintenance including carpentry, painting, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing experience; or any equivalent combination of directly related training or experience.
• Applicants within six months of meeting the minimum education/experience may be considered for trainee status.
• A Valid Florida Driver License is required and a Motor Vehicle Record that meets the requirements of Alachua County policy #6-7; MVRs reviewed prior to employment.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen & physical examination and requires the successful completion of a criminal history background investigation prior to employment.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and coordinates the activities of subordinate employees including determining work procedures and schedules; issuing instructions and assigning duties; reviewing work; recommending personnel actions; conducting performance reviews; and conducting departmental training and orientation.
• Performs skilled journeyman level work in one or more areas including HVAC, electrical, painting, plumbing and carpentry.
• Maintains a stock of repair parts and maintenance supplies; may estimate and procure supplies.
• Responds to emergencies and addresses emergencies, critical issues, or operational needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Drives County vehicles to various site locations; ensures safety protocols and proper documentation are followed.
• Notes: essential employee status and requirement to work during disasters or emergencies.
