Job summary

Alachua County Board of County Commissioners seeks a highly skilled operator for heavy equipment and specialized motors used in public works. The role requires driving, inspection, routine maintenance, and safe operation across multiple sites.

Ideal candidates hold a Florida Class A CDL with air brakes, a clean Motor Vehicle Record, and the ability to lead crews on complex projects while adhering to safety standards and county policies. This is a full-time, on-site position with benefits.

Qualifications

• Completion of eighth grade and two years experience operating heavy/complex equipment.
• Must obtain an N endorsement within thirty days of employment.
• Pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background checks required.

Responsibilities

• Operate a range of heavy construction equipment and vehicles.
• Perform routine maintenance and pre-operation checks.
• Lead and coordinate work at maintenance/construction sites when needed.
• Ensure safety and regulatory compliance during operations.
• Respond to emergencies as an emergency essential classification.
