Job summary

The HRA/DEPT OF SOCIAL SERVICES is seeking a Custodian III to function as a Senior Building Custodian in New York City. The role includes supervising custodial staff, organizing schedules, inspecting facilities, and ensuring compliance with cleaning and safety standards.

Responsibilities encompass training, safety procedures, maintaining inventories, securing buildings, and coordinating with contracted personnel to uphold service levels.

Qualifications

• Two years of full-time satisfactory experience in the cleaning and maintenance of buildings.
• For Assignment Level II, three years of satisfactory experience as described above.
• For Assignment Level III and IV, four years of satisfactory experience as described above.

Responsibilities

• Supervise custodial staff in various titles, including Building Custodians and related roles.
• Assign schedules and monitor daily work to ensure coverage and efficiency.
• Inspect buildings and areas to ensure cleaning, sanitation, safety, and maintenance standards are met.
• Identify deficiencies, document actions, and follow up on corrective actions.
• Report building conditions, maintenance concerns, safety hazards, and repairs to supervisors.
• Organize requisitions, receive, store, and distribute supplies and equipment.
• Maintain control of custodial supplies, equipment, keys, and City property.
• Arrange opening/closing of buildings; ensure doors and property are secured.
• Monitor conditions during assigned hours and act on emergencies or issues.
• Supervise and monitor custodians and cleaning contractors; report performance and compliance.
• Train custodial staff in cleaning methods, equipment use, safety, and procedures.
• Provide guidance to staff on work assignments, procedures, and safety.
• Maintain records, logs, and schedules related to custodial operations.
• Respond to complaints and service requests concerning cleanliness and safety; take action.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
