Job summary

NYC Department of Social Services is seeking a Custodian III to function as a Senior Building Custodian. You will supervise custodial staff, assign schedules, inspect buildings, and ensure that cleaning, safety, and maintenance standards are met.

Responsibilities include organizing supplies, training staff, reporting conditions, and maintaining records. The role may involve rotating shifts (6:00 AM–2:30 PM or 2:00 PM–10:30 PM) with residency and 55-a program considerations noted.

Qualifications

• Two years of full-time satisfactory experience in the cleaning and maintenance of buildings.
• To be assigned to Assignment Level II, candidates must have three years of satisfactory experience as described in the Qualification Requirements above.
• To be assigned to Assignment Level III and IV candidates must have four years of satisfactory experience as described in the Qualification Requirements above.

Responsibilities

• Supervise custodial staff in various titles and monitor daily work to ensure adequate coverage and efficient completion of tasks.
• Inspect buildings and assigned areas to ensure cleaning, sanitation, safety, and maintenance standards are met.
• Identify deficiencies, document corrective actions, and follow up to address them.
• Organize requisitions and manage custodial supplies, equipment, and city property.
• Maintain records, logs, and schedules related to custodial operations.
• Respond to complaints and service requests and take corrective action.
