Job summary

NYC Health Department is seeking a CIT Custodial Assistant to uphold cleanliness and safety across city facilities. Primary duties include cleaning floors, bathrooms, lobbies, and common areas, while supporting building services.

There are no formal education or experience requirements. NYC residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment, with possible exceptions for certain titles.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Sweep, damp mop, and wet mop office floors, toilets, corridors, lobbies and other assigned areas.
• Serve as a Fire Safety Director; addressing FDNY citation for building violations.
• Ordering janitorial supplies.
• Empties waste baskets and disposes of refuse. Vacuums rugs and carpets. Replaces bulbs and fuses.
• Perform shoulder high and high dusting of walls. Polishes furniture and metal work.
• Maintain lawns and shrubs; operating a low pressure heating system.
• Enforce safety requirements and protecting the building and grounds from vandalism.
• Inspect interior and exterior of assigned building daily, including boilers, elevators and related equipment.
• Replaces broken window and door glass.
• Mikes minor repairs to masonry, woodwork flooring, walls, electrical, plumbing and heating systems.
• Assure proper heat, maintenance of pneumatic controls, ejector pits and other electrical or plumbing problems.
• Attend to building emergencies as they arise.
