Job summary

The Department of Social Services — HRA/General Support Services (GSS) is seeking a Custodian IV to act as Supervising Building Custodian, overseeing cleaning and maintenance for City-leased and City-owned buildings used by HRA programs.

Qualification includes multiple years of satisfactory experience, strong leadership and communication skills, and the ability to manage inventories, training, and safety programs while ensuring timely, compliant operations.

Qualifications

• Two years of full-time satisfactory experience in the cleaning and maintenance of buildings.
• Three years of satisfactory experience for Assignment Level II.
• Four years of satisfactory experience for Assignment Level III and IV.

Responsibilities

• Direct and coordinate all areas building cleaning and maintenance operations.
• Supervise custodial staff, including Senior/Junior Custodians and contracted personnel.
• Develop and implement cleaning schedules to ensure efficient operations.
• Conduct regular inspections of cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and appearance.
• Identify deficiencies and specify corrective actions to meet standards.
• Monitor performance and productivity; provide guidance and follow-up.
• Coordinate custodial coverage with staffing adjustments as needed.
• Maintain inventories of custodial supplies and equipment.
• Prepare and submit reports on building conditions and operations.
• Ensure staff follow agency policies and safety requirements.
• Arrange training for custodial staff to maintain skills and safety.
