The Shirley Chisholm Recreation Center, in East Flatbush, will be an almost 70,000-square-foot facility with an indoor competition pool, gymnasium, teaching kitchen, cardio and strength rooms, dance studio, media lab and programming spaces. This Recreation Center will provide the community with a wide variety of sports, fitness, arts and educational programs for all ages and abilities.

Major Responsibilities
  1. Under general direction of Center Management, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, assist Borough Recreation and Center Management in coordinating facility maintenance and repairs.
  2. Coordinate with Capital, Citywide Services, Borough Trades, and Division Leadership on projects. Assist with project tracking and reporting.
  3. Contribute to division service contracts (e.g., elevator, fire alarm, fitness equipment), execute quality improvements and streamline service delivery.
  4. Support Center Management in completing maintenance checklists and follow up on related action items.
  5. Assist in monitoring HVAC, boiler, roof, indoor pool and other major systems to ensure a state of good repair.
  6. Track and report on facility related metrics.
  7. Research, analyze and create reports, operational analysis and summary documents. Respond to requests for information.
  8. Enter requests into the Asset Management Parks System (AMPS) and help Center Management manage relationships with internal maintenance divisions.
  9. Provide general office support, maintain electronic and hardcopy files and answer phones.
  10. Assist with special projects as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
Preferred Skills
  • Familiarity and/or experience with purchasing, facilities management and/or capital projects processes.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, writing and time-management skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Office 365. Familiarity with AMPS.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends.
  • Valid New York State driver license.

Residency Requirement

Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
