Job summary

Total Vision LLC in the Financial District of San Francisco, CA is hiring an Optical Assistant for a full-time, hourly role. You will help patients select frames and lenses, ensure accurate measurements, verify insurance, and guide patients through lens options and fittings.

Strong customer service and sales skills are essential. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED, with 2–3 years of experience in optical settings; optical knowledge is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; 2-3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Customer Service – Must exhibit excellent customer service skills, ensuring each patient interaction exceeds their expectations.
• Sales – Demonstrate strong relationship building skills with customers and ability to educate patients on their options resulting in successful purchases at the practice.
• Team Player - Must be a team player and able to effectively communicate with fellow co-workers, supervisors, and managers.
• Computer - Proficiency in various software including Excel and word processing; familiarity with manufacturing/ payroll/ inventory software is helpful.
• Language - Ability to read and interpret documents, write routine reports, and communicate effectively.
• Optical Knowledge - Optical experience is preferred, not strictly required.
• Cross-Training - Role may require cross-training and flexibility with work environment.

Responsibilities

• Assists patients with frame and lens selection.
• Educates patients on options for clear lenses, sunglasses, and other needs.
• Ensures proper fit and measurements for single vision, bifocal, progressive, and other lens types.
• Verifies patient insurance and explains benefits.
• Dispenses glasses and informs patients about adaptation to prescriptions and lens types.
• Helps patients with repairs and adjustments.
• Lab experience in edging, finishing and surfacing preferred.
