Job summary

ICON Eyecare is seeking a full-time Surgical Counselor to educate patients about upcoming eye surgeries and lens options, and to coordinate scheduling and pre-authorization steps. The role includes patient communication, insurance verification, and post-operative document handling, with training provided.

You will work in our Denver metro clinics, collaborating with a team to ensure smooth patient experiences and accurate paperwork across pre- and post-op stages.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two+ years in a medical office setting.
• Surgical counseling experience preferred.
• Sales background required.
• Knowledge of insurance carrier policies and procedures.
• Ability to use computers, EHR, and office equipment.

Responsibilities

• Counsel and educate patients about upcoming surgery and lens options.
• Set surgery dates and post-surgical appointments.
• Send paperwork to authorization specialist for eligibility and authorization.
• Confirm pre-certification from insurance carriers.
• Discuss implant options and self-pay financing.
• Collect fees for specialty lenses and co-insurance/co-pays.
• Issue refunds for cancelled surgeries.
• Create H&Ps and obtain clearances as needed.
• Communicate with referring Optometrists and other staff.
• Answer patient calls and distribute post-op documents.
• QA surgery charts.
