Job summary

American Vision Partners (AVP) is seeking a Specialty Surgery Counselor to guide patients through the surgery process, ensuring a smooth and exceptional experience in a fast-paced environment. You will schedule surgeries, verify insurance, and prepare charts for procedures.

The role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication, and the ability to multi-task across pre- and post-operative activities. Monday–Friday availability and patient-centered focus are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required and relevant medical experience preferred.
• At least 1 year of experience in medical field and counseling of surgical patients preferred.
• Experience in ophthalmology or optometry preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
• Detail oriented, reliable and able to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
• Flexible schedule, Monday-Friday.

Responsibilities

• Counsels patients for surgery by providing clear, concise details about what to expect.
• Reviews all surgery paperwork with patients; obtains consent for procedures.
• Schedules pre-operative, and post-operative appointments as appropriate by specialty.
• Fills surgeon’s schedules to capacity and takes steps to fill the day.
• Follows up on canceled procedures and no-shows where the case hasn’t been rescheduled.
• Ensures patient out-of-pocket costs are collected before surgery (copays, coinsurance, deductible, lenses, etc.).
• Prepares surgical charts and labels documents with surgical paperwork.
• Maintains relationships with referring providers.
• Contributes to a quality patient experience and protects patient confidentiality.
