Job summary

VSP Vision in Riverside, CA is seeking an on-site team member to assist the optometrist with eye examinations and patient eye care. You will perform pre-testing, gather patient history, and guide patients through the clinical experience.

The role requires 1–2 years in a related field, proficient MS Office skills, and strong communication and interpersonal abilities to manage patient flow and support the doctor and staff.

Qualifications

• One to two years of experience in related field.
• Working knowledge of MS Office package.
• Effective verbal communication skills to prioritize multiple tasks.
• Effective written communication skills to document patient visits.
• Excellent interpersonal and rapport-building skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients before the examination by gathering information about the patient’s vision and medical history, explaining the exam process, and documenting all needed information in the patient’s record.
• Operate technology and clinical instruments, take measurements, and administer tests to assess visual capabilities.
• Perform contact lens insertion and educate patients on insertion/removal.
• Order contact lenses and manage trials inventory.
• Administer topical ophthalmic and dilation medications.
• Scribe for the doctor and translate as needed.
• Prioritize patient care and patient flow, communicating with doctors, staff, and patients.
• Assist in therapy exercises or procedures under the optometrist’s direction.
• Support other office duties: answering phones, checking in patients, verifying insurance, scanning charts, maintaining a clean office.
• Work on special projects and cross-train across departments.
