Job summary

VSP Vision in California seeks an eye-care assistant to support the Optometrist during examinations, perform pre-testing, intake patient history, and guide patients through the clinical experience. You will work with clinical instruments, document patient information, and help manage patient flow while ensuring high-quality service and accurate records throughout the eye-care process.

Ideal candidates have 1–2 years in a related field, strong communication skills, and proficiency with MS Office;

Qualifications

• One to two years of experience in related field.
• Working knowledge of MS Office package.
• Effective verbal communication skills to prioritize tasks and handle inquiries.
• Effective written communication skills to document patient visits.
• Excellent interpersonal and rapport-building skills.
• Ability to ask appropriate questions to identify patient needs.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
• For remote or hybrid roles, maintain engagement in virtual environments with camera presence.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients before the examination by collecting medical history and documenting in the record.
• Use clinical instruments and tests to assess visual capabilities prior to the vision exam.
• Perform contact lens insertion and educate patients on care.
• Order contact lenses and manage trials inventory.
• Administer topical ophthalmic and dilation medications.
• Scr ibe for the doctor and translate as needed.
• Prioritize patient care and flow, communicating with doctors, staff, and patients.
• Assist in therapy exercises or procedures under supervision of the Optometrist.
• Assist in other office areas: phones, insurance checks, chart scanning, and front-desk duties.
• Work on special projects and cross-train in departments as assigned.
