Job summary

VSP Vision in Modesto, CA is seeking an ophthalmic support role to assist the Optometrist during eye examinations and patient care. The position includes pre-testing, collecting patient history, and guiding patients through the clinical experience.

The role requires 1–2 years of related experience, strong MS Office skills, and excellent verbal/written communication. It is an on-site, full-time position with opportunities for bonuses as part of the compensation package.

Qualifications

• One to two years of experience in related field.
• Working knowledge of MS Office package.
• Effective verbal communication skills to prioritize multiple tasks and to be available for incoming calls and inquiries.
• Effective written communication skills to clearly document patient visits.
• Excellent interpersonal and rapport-building skills.
• Ability to ask appropriate and relevant questions to identify patient needs.
• Ability to listen, process transactions and interact with patients simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients before the examination by gathering information about the patient’s vision and medical history, explaining the exam process, and documenting all needed information in the patient’s record.
• Able to work well with technology and various clinical instruments, taking measurements, and administering tests to determine the visual capabilities of the patient in preparation for the vision examination.
• Perform contact lens insertion; educate and train patients on contact lens insertion and removal.
• Order contact lenses of various types of materials and designs and manage contact lens trials inventory
• Administer topical ophthalmic and dilation medications
• Scribe for the doctor and translate as needed
• Prioritize patient care and patient flow while communicating effectively with doctors, staff, and patients
• Perform, under the direction of the Optometrist, some therapy exercises or procedures with the patient
• Assist in other areas of the office as necessary, such as answering phones, verifying insurance, checking in patients, scanning charts, maintaining a clean office, and checking patients in and out
• Work on special projects, cross-train in different departments, and perform other related duties as assigned or requested
