Job summary

Visionworks of America, Inc. is seeking a part-time Clinical Specialist/Optometric Assistant in Danvers, MA. You’ll prepare patients for onsite and remote examinations, conduct pre-exam tests, and guide patients through each step, acting as the liaison between patients and Optometrists.

You’ll support both in-person and remote exams, document results in EMR, and help schedule appointments while ensuring accurate patient records and insurance preauthorizations. Training is provided.

Qualifications

• One year of related experience is required.
• Optical or healthcare background preferred.
• Medical office/business professionalism required.
• HS diploma or GED or equivalent related job experience.

Responsibilities

• Register patients and collect pertinent medical history and ocular health data into EMR.
• Assist onsite doctor with patient care and eye examinations; explain preliminary tests and document results in EMR.
• Assist remote patients through remote eye exams, including pre-testing, testing, and videoconferencing.
• Transition patients to a retail associate after exams and convey doctor recommendations.
• Understand MVC plans and explain plan benefits to patients.
• Preauthorize insurance per SOPs.
• Schedule appointments and manage exam books, including handling no-shows and cancellations.
• Maintain patient flow to support doctor effectiveness.
• Answer clinical questions in person and by phone; triage ocular emergencies and schedule annual eye exams.
• Maintain complete patient records per company standards.
• Instruct patients on contact lens insertion, care, and handling; place diagnostic contact lens orders and notify when ready.
• Know contact lens brands/parameters; pull trials as requested by doctor.
• Keep clinical environment clean and stocked; cover equipment nightly.
• Participate in required clinical training and certifications.
• Be able to travel to other locations as needed.
