Job description

Duties and Responsibilities

The selected candidate will lead field crop and dairy programs in Iredell County, providing educational programming and technical assistance for all phases of field crop production (corn, soybeans, cotton, wheat) and pesticide education. They will also conduct on-farm research work in these crops, develop and deliver dairy production, animal waste operator certifications, and youth dairy programming. The role requires collaboration with Extension staff, private industry stakeholders, and community organizations, and the agent will serve as the county pesticide coordinator.

Responsibilities
  • Build and develop relationships with local agricultural producers, private industry stakeholders, and local volunteer organizations.
  • Develop and maintain organized Agriculture programs that follow North Carolina Cooperative Extension policies and guidelines.
  • Assess client needs and evaluate program impact regularly.
  • Work collaboratively with other Extension programs, staff, agencies, and community organizations.
  • Network with neighboring Agents, University Specialists, and local Ag Producers to plan and implement innovative research test plots and educational field days.
  • Promote Agriculture within the community.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Educational: A bachelor’s degree in agriculture or a related field with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 overall or 3.0 in an agricultural discipline (waived for NCCE Program Associates). Applicants may also have completed at least one‑half of a master’s curriculum with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, or hold a master’s degree in agriculture or a related field.

Other requirements: Valid driver’s license, reliable personal transportation, and a valid NCDL within 60 days of hire. Travel within the county and occasionally within the state and district is required.

Preferred qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in agronomy or a related science; experience in communications, presentation, public relations/marketing, leadership, time management, organization, technology, networking, and resource development.
