Job summary

NC State University is seeking an Area Agent for Field Crops in Oxford, NC. This role involves delivering comprehensive educational programs across Granville and Person Counties, focusing on profitability and sustainable practices in field crops and coordinating pest management training for licensure.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in crop science or related field, with master’s preferred, plus experience in extension and strong computer skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in crop science, agronomy, or related agricultural field with GPA 2.5 overall or 3.0 job-related (Bachelor’s plus NCCE Program Associate may waive GPA).
• Master’s degree preferred; at least completion of half of a master’s curriculum with GPA 3.0 or higher in job-related field, or completion of a master’s degree.
• At least one year of extension or related professional experience; high computer competency desired.
• Valid driver’s license required.

• Deliver educational programs in all phases of field crop production for Granville and Person Counties.
• Focus on profitability and sustainability of North Carolina field crops, promoting research-based best practices, technology adoption, business, and financial practices.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate effective educational programs to meet the counties’ needs.
• Serve as the county pesticide coordinator and provide training for private, public, and commercial operators to obtain and maintain pesticide licenses.
• Develop and market educational programs with measurable impacts, collaborating with other agencies, groups, and organizations.
• Conduct applied research development in the program area.

• Bachelor’s degree in crop science, agronomy, or related agricultural field (GPA 2.5 overall or 3.0 job‑related) or candidates with Bachelor’s plus NCCE Program Associate may waive GPA.

Work Schedule

8:30 am – 5:00 pm Monday – Friday; nights and weekends as required.
