Job summary

Arch Insurance North America is seeking an experienced insurance leader to provide strategic direction, management, and leadership for the Surety Underwriting Group. This role is responsible for developing and executing underwriting strategy, achieving business unit objectives, supporting profitable growth, and partnering effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

This position can be performed from any location that is near an Arch Insurance office, with travel across North America to

Qualifications

• 15–20+ years of insurance underwriting experience across home office and field environments.
• Demonstrated experience leading high-performing, cross-functional teams.
• Strong talent development capabilities, including mentoring, coaching, leadership development, and performance management.
• Ability to align strategy with day-to-day operations to achieve key business objectives and drive organizational success.
• Willingness and ability to travel across North America for account and marketing visits.
• Experience traveling up to 35%.
• Bachelor’s degree in business, insurance, or related field, or equivalent work experience.

Responsibilities

• Set strategic direction and execute actions to maximize product-line underwriting results.
• Partner with stakeholders to achieve business-unit goals and profitable growth.
• Lead ongoing management of the group to meet underwriting and line-of-business targets.
• Evaluate underwriting performance, renewals, and market opportunities.
• Represent the organization in the marketplace with customers, agents, and brokers.
• Ensure underwriting products, guidelines, and authority limits comply with regulatory requirements.
• Promote underwriting discipline, product application, and marketing execution for growth.
