Job summary

American Electric Power seeks a Vice President of Transmission Projects – West to direct the Transmission organization with accountability for a portfolio up to $5 billion in multi-year investments spanning several years and projects ranging from $5 million to over $1 billion.

Responsibilities include leading safety programs, ensuring projects are initiated, planned, executed, monitored, controlled, and closed with a risk-balanced approach, and communicating with internal and external

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field with 15 years of qualified experience.
• Minimum of fifteen (15) years of qualified experience, with at least eight (8) years supervising others.
• Experience in major construction projects, project management, commissioning, project controls, fossil plant operations, and labor negotiations.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) is preferred.
• Proven strength in strategic thinking and planning.
• Proven strength in project risk assessment and mitigation strategies.
• High-energy, tenacious leadership with conflict management and decision-making skills.
• Ability to travel and work hours as required.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, develop, and oversee policies, practices, procedures, and programs designed to achieve long-range and short-term Company objectives.
• Direct an effective project management organization through proper scoping, organization, staffing, planning, scheduling, budgeting, and performance metric reporting.
• Develop partnerships with stakeholders to establish long-range strategic project planning, scheduling, permitting, and licensing, engineering, design, procurement, and construction programs.
• Direct and monitor safety programs to assure a 'Zero Harm' environment and adherence to safety policies.
• Provide leadership to ensure schedules, cost estimates, cash flows and capital expenditures for environmental projects align with approved budgets.
• Provide guidance to support Transmission vision, strategy and execution for Capital Excellence and Continuous Improvement.
• Mentor and develop subordinate Project Directors and Project Managers to maximize potential.
• Support long-range budget and forecast with effective estimate development and change management.

Education
