Job summary

Merck & Co. is seeking a Distinguished Scientist/Executive Director to lead the Translational Clinical Biomarker team in Rahway, NJ. This role oversees biomarker strategy for multiple oncology platforms, guiding PhD-/MD-level scientists from pre-FIH to Phase 3 and beyond.

You will collaborate with clinical development teams, informatics, and external experts to develop testable hypotheses and robust clinical biomarker plans, ensuring alignment with portfolio strategy and regulatory expectations.

Qualifications

Must have extensive experience in clinical trial development and execution; clear strategic view on translational needs in clinical studies.
Strong leadership skills in a matrixed environment; track record in cross-functional groups on drug discovery and/or clinical development.
Proven biomedical research achievement; end-to-end drug and biomarker/diagnostic development experience.
Deep knowledge of cancer biology, oncology and translational biomarker development.

Responsibilities

Oversight of cross-functional translational biomarker efforts across clinical development teams.
Lead PhD-/MD-level scientists embedded in oncology clinical programs.
Develop and align biomarker strategy from pre-FIH to Phase 3 and beyond.
Collaborate with statisticians and informatics to build analysis plans and reports.
Communicate study plans and outputs to senior leadership and stakeholders.
Partner with BMx, companion diagnostics and external KOLs for collaborations.
Drive publication of biomarker and translational research for studies.
