Job summary

Merck & Co., Inc., Rahway, NJ, is seeking a Distinguished Scientist to lead a Translational Clinical Biomarkers center. You will supervise PhD-/MD-level scientists and shape end-to-end biomarker strategy for multiple oncology platforms from pre-FIH to Phase 3 and beyond.

The role requires extensive leadership in a matrixed environment, translational biomarker development, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure successful clinical outcomes. Hybrid work arrangements available.

Qualifications

• The candidate will lead a Biomarker Center of Excellence and oversee end-to-end biomarker strategy development.
• Strong background in oncology biomarker studies and translational clinical research is required.
• Experience with cross-functional, matrixed teams and regulatory engagements is preferred.
• Proven track record in biomarker discovery, diagnostic development, and drug development.

Responsibilities

• Oversight of cross-functional translational efforts on key oncology platforms.
• Lead PhD/MD scientists embedded in oncology clinical development programs.
• Collaborate to formulate hypothesis and translate into biomarker plans.
• Align development strategy with portfolio goals and mitigate risks.
• Build statistical analysis plans and communicate study outputs across functions.
• Drive external collaborations and publication of biomarker research.
• Interface with translational labs to implement preclinical/translational projects.
