Job summary

GovAI Coalition is seeking an Executive Director to guide strategy, operations, and fundraising for a fully remote nonprofit focused on responsible AI in government. You will lead programs, build partnerships with government agencies, philanthropy, industry, and academia, and manage a small team with broad volunteer involvement.

The role emphasizes strategic leadership, fiscal stewardship, and external engagement to expand the Coalition’s reach and impact in the public sector.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, nonprofit management, technology, public policy, or related field.
• Seven+ years of progressively responsible leadership experience, including at least three in an executive role.
• Proven success growing organizations and implementing strategic initiatives.
• Experience managing nonprofit or public-sector budgets and financial operations.
• Ability to build partnerships with government agencies, nonprofits, academia, philanthropic organizations, and private-sector partners.
• Commitment to advancing responsible AI for the public good.

Responsibilities

• Translate the Advisory Board’s priorities into actionable plans, programs, and goals.
• Refine strategic priorities, establish measures of success, and guide long-term growth and impact.
• Identify and develop initiatives, pilots, and partnerships to advance public-sector AI needs.
• Provide timely updates, insights, and recommendations to support governance and decision-making.
• Lead day-to-day operations, recruit and manage staff, contractors, and volunteers while establishing clear roles and performance expectations.
• Oversee fundraising, revenue development, and financial stewardship to sustain the coalition.
