Job summary

The GovAI Coalition seeks an Executive Director to lead its mission of advancing responsible AI in government. You will steward strategy, fundraising, operations, and programs while guiding a small team and coordinating a large volunteer network.

Reporting to the Board, you will build partnerships with government agencies, philanthropic funders, industry, and academia, ensuring financial stewardship and growth to expand impact across public sector AI adoption.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in public administration, nonprofit management, technology, public policy, or a related field.
• 7+ years of leadership experience, including 3+ years in an executive role.
• Proven track record in strategy, operations, budgeting, and program delivery.
• Experience managing nonprofit or public-sector budgets and partnerships.
• Commitment to the Coalition’s mission of advancing responsible AI for the public good.

Responsibilities

• Advance strategic direction and translate priorities into actionable plans and goals.
• Lead day-to-day operations, recruit and manage staff and volunteers, and liaise with the fiscal sponsor.
• Oversee fundraising, grants, partnerships, and revenue development for sustainability.
• Build relationships with government, philanthropy, industry, and academia to expand impact.
• Provide governance updates to the Advisory Board and support organizational growth.
• Represent the Coalition at conferences, events, and public forums.
