Job summary

Chartwells K-12 is seeking an hands-on Executive Chef to lead culinary operations for Airport Community Schools in Carleton, MI. You will oversee menu development, food quality, staff training, and daily kitchen operations for about 2,800 students across eight buildings, reporting to the Director of Dining Services.

The role includes catering oversight, staff development, and implementing signature programs to boost student participation and satisfaction while maintaining a Monday–Friday

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree highly desired or equivalent experience in culinary arts.
• 5+ years of progressive culinary/kitchen management experience, with catering experience preferred.
• Proven success in high-volume, complex foodservice operations in a K-12 environment.
• Hands-on chef experience is critical, with knowledge of trends, quality, sanitation, cost control and presentation.
• ServSafe certification is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office suite and email systems.

Responsibilities

• Develops regular and specialty menus in line with K12 standards, ensuring adherence to portioning and presentation guidelines.
• Trains kitchen staff in food preparation, equipment operation, and safety protocols, promoting a culture of excellence.
• Establishes and maintains cleaning and maintenance schedules for equipment and work areas.
• Manages inventory of food and supplies, optimizing utilization.
• Ensures compliance with health and sanitation regulations through audits and procedures.
• Participates in departmental meetings, staff development, and industry trend programs.
• Performs other duties to support efficient dining service operations.
