Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Unit Secretary Health Unit Coordinator for the Medical Care Center on the evenings shift. This full-time role supports patient care operations on a 3pm-11:30pm schedule with rotating weekends, ensuring accurate medical records, registration, and communication across departments.

As the first point of contact, you will manage unit workflow, coordinate with the Manager and Charge Nurse, retrieve lab results, transcribe orders, and assist patients and families

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Basic computer knowledge is required.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs unit-based reception, clerical, medical records and patient registration functions.
• Acts as liaison between patient care units and other departments to coordinate care.
• Retrieves lab results and brings them to the nurse caring for the patient.
• Transcribes orders and verifies data to ensure timely delivery of medications and supplies.
• Maintains orderly medical records and census lists; supports continuous improvement initiatives.
