Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator to support patient flow, chart preparation, and registration processes on a rotating 2–3 shift schedule. You will liaise between patient care units and departments, ensuring accurate record keeping and timely communication with nurses and physicians.

The role requires strong customer service skills, basic computer knowledge, and the ability to work under pressure with a calm, professional demeanor.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbal and in writing.
• Ability to assess and determine situations requiring an interpreter and to use interpreter services effectively
• Excellent customer service skills

Responsibilities

• Presents a friendly, approachable, professional demeanor and appearance.
• Registers patients in the computer and retrieves lab results for nurses.
• Manages unit workflow with the Charge Nurse and interdepartmental coordination.
• Communicates with patients, families and staff; answers questions and provides directions.
• Coordinates with the Manager to ensure timely, accurate documentation and care delivery.
