Job summary

University of California, Berkeley Library is seeking an Evening and Weekend Work Lead to supervise student employees, manage circulation and stacks, and ensure safe access to library services during evening and weekend hours. The role requires strong communication skills and familiarity with library catalogs, with opportunities to train staff and respond to facilities issues.

The position is a non-exempt, approximately 12-month, full-time assignment ending August 25, 2027, offering UC benefits

Qualifications

• Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
• Familiarity with online library catalogs.
• Experience working as part of a team in an academic setting.
• Familiarity with the PC environment, Microsoft Office and Google applications.
• Working knowledge of Chinese, Japanese, or Korean.

• Ability to handle difficult interpersonal interactions with patrons and staff effectively.

Responsibilities

• Circulation and reserves - check material in/out, renewals, holds, and searches.
• Stacks management - shelving, shelf-reading, and organizing stacks.
• Lead student library employees and provide feedback/training.
• Ensure safety and security of users and facilities; respond to emergencies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
