Job summary

University of California, Los Angeles is seeking a YRL Evening and Weekend Assistant to manage circulation desk tasks, student staff supervision, and public service duties for the Charles E. Young Research Library.

The role requires strong communication, teamwork, and a focus on safety and policy compliance, with hours scheduled on weekends and select weekdays. This position supports remote learning through library services and reserves operations.

Qualifications

• Experience in circulation operations including billing, reserves, stacks maintenance, and public services.
• Experience supervising students, including training, scheduling, and delegating work.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in teams and handle customer inquiries.
• Familiarity with library technology and database systems is preferred.
• Experience with Office 365 and collaboration tools (Slack, Confluence, JIRA) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform circulation desk duties: checkout/in, renewals, requests, and policy enforcement.
• Supervise and train 20–30 student staff and coordinate shifts.
• Respond to patron questions, handle billing inquiries, and assist with course reserves.
• Assist in updating library webpages and collaborate with UAS and YRL staff.
