Job summary

The Regents of the University of California on behalf of their Los Angeles Campus is seeking an Library Assistant role in the Charles E. Young Research Library. The position covers evenings and weekends, supervising 20–30 student staff, and handling circulation, reserves, and patron inquiries.

Primary duties include desk operations, safety coordination, and maintaining records while collaborating with UAS and campus partners. Schedule includes Saturday, Sunday, and weekday evenings.

Qualifications

• Experience in circulation, billing, course reserves, and public services in an academic library.
• Proven ability to supervise and train student staff.
• Demonstrated project planning and prioritization for a department.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 and email, databases, and file sharing tools.
• Experience with collaboration tools such as Slack, Confluence, JIRA.

Responsibilities

• Perform circulation desk duties including checkout, renewals, and questions.
• Supervise and train 20–30 student staff, scheduling and delegation.
• Provide public service and handle billing and course reserves processing.
• Coordinate lost/missing item searches and maintain item records.
• Respond to patron inquiries and support safety/security reporting.
