Job summary

University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is seeking a YRL Evening and Weekend Assistant to manage circulation desk operations, supervise 20–30 student staff, and respond to patron inquiries during evenings and weekends.

The role requires strong knowledge of library circulation, effective training and supervision, and the ability to coordinate with campus safety and other UAS teams. Weekend and evening hours are scheduled; effective communication and problem solving are essential.

Qualifications

• Knowledge and experience of the circulation operation in an academic library, including billing, reserves, stacks maintenance, and public services.
• Experience supervising others including training, scheduling, and delegation of work.
• Demonstrated ability to plan and implement short- and long-term projects for a department.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and email; experience with client/server databases.
• Experience with Office 365 and online collaboration tools such as Slack, Confluence, JIRA.
• Ability to work independently with minimal direction and follow through on assignments.

Responsibilities

• Perform circulation desk activities (checkout/in, renewals, requests) and enforce library policy.
• Supervise 20–30 student staff, including training and scheduling.
• Handle billing questions, processing course reserves, and lost/missing item searches.
• Maintain item records, respond to patron inquiries, and assist with safety and security issues.
• Coordinate with UAS and other units to ensure smooth operations and backup coverage.
