Job summary

Qualifications

• Equivalent to high school plus additional specialized training.
• Knowledge of a variety of office procedures, operation of office equipment such as computer.
• Ability to handle multiple priorities and effective communication.
• 3 to 12 months experience.

Responsibilities

• Serves as unit receptionist, directs patients, visitors and others; answers telephone and intercom.
• Uses pneumatic tube system and transmits messages; arranges for specimen transport.
• Transcribes physician orders; enters orders into entry system per standard procedure.
• Duplicates reports, mails and distributes; maintains patient charts and kardexes.
• Schedules patients for consults and services; ensures transportation for appointments.
• Obtains past medical records and arranges transfers and discharges.
• Maintains census; arranges admissions, transfers, discharges.
• Enters, maintains and retrieves computer information; orders equipment and supplies.
• Maintains unit log; may provide supply and dispatch services.
• Performs other similar duties as required.
